Adding GPS Tracks

To add your own multi-boat animation to our GPX animation page just . I will generally add your tracks to our page as long as they include tracks for more than one boat at the same time.

Creating GPX tracks

After downloading your GPS track from your GPS device, save them in .gpx format. If your software does not support .gpx format, you can convert your tracks using gpsbabel.

Previewing GPX Animations

If you don't want to wait for me to merge your .gpx files and post them to the web, you can preview the tracks as follows. However, other people generally won't be able to see your files unless they also follow these instructions.

This only works in Internet Explorer

  1. Merge your .gpx files into a single .gpx file. The trick is to put the <trk> sections together in a single file. See this file for example.
  2. Launch Microsoft Internet Explorer. Click on
    Tools Menu
    ->InternetOptions
    ->Security
    ->CustomLevel
    ->Miscellaneous
    ->Allow data sources across domains
    ->Prompt
    so your browser can load .gpx files from anywhere on the internet, instead of just from fulltiltphoto.com. Then click "OK".
  3. Put your .gpx file on the internet.
  4. Open your GPX file by visiting http://www.fulltiltphoto.com/gpx?URL, replacing "URL" with the URL to your GPX file.
